Indeed there is no dearth of opportunities in the market with its size surging continuously and buyers looking for options to ensure good quality products. Shafiq clarified strongly that the company does not believe in the “snatch their share” approach and is rather looking at the segment of customers who are genuinely interested in understanding the uniqueness of the company’s products and thereby properly utilizing them for their specific stitching requirements.
Pioneering the development and manufacture of synthetic spun sewing threads and filaments, one of the oldest and largest German thread manufacturer, AMANN Group , is now reaping the benefits of its newly setup state-of-the-art factory in Gazipur, Dhaka. AMANN Bangladesh, a joint venture of the Standard Group, one of the largest apparel and textile conglomerate in Bangladesh, and AMANN Group of Germany started their plant construction at the end of 2012 and commenced production from the end of 2013 with a vision to sustain the rapid growth in the South East Asian apparel industry. “The thread market has grown large enough to accommodate all the big players,” says Shafiq Uz Zaman, Managing Director, AMANN Bangladesh.
Shafiq is also very positive on the growth projectile that the company foresees in leather goods from the country and is in the process of adding their famous CFP to its product basket. The polyester continuous filament thread is one of the most outstanding product for closing and lockstitch seams in shoes and other leather products. He reconfirms that the company’s main focus is to provide its customers the best standards of products both in strength and colour of the threads. As the company has marked its strong presence in South EastAsia by opening manufacturing facilities in China as well as Bangladesh, the products are much more price-competitive with shorter delivery leadtime.
Shafiq feels that the basic apparel sewing threads will always be at the core for the company, as the orders for basic products are always voluminous. “But then, these are not enough to sustain the brand value,” he says. The company has plans to slowly and gradually move up the value chain and cater to the customers and the products specific to their needs. Within 6 months of its functional presence in Bangladesh, AMANN had launched its highly textured, voluminous perfect bulk yarn, sabaTEX for all serging and coverstitch seams and was nominated by retail giants like Puma, M&S, Next for the same. The company does a complete study on market trends and the business developments happening in the market, before prudently taking steps to launch new categories of products.
With the rising standards of compliance and safety issues in the country, AMANN has been highly conscious of setting up its manufacturing facility complying with those standards rather than having to restructure the plant afterwards. “The kind of investments we have made with regard to energy and effluent management, taking the long term environmental factors into consideration is really commendable, claims Shafiq. With a customer-friendly approach to business, the Bangladesh operation is making very good progress in its business growth plan.
